CREATIVITY AS A PATH TOWARD TESHUVAH: A Free Elul Creative Practice with Kohenet Bekah Starr

August 9 - September 10 | Creative prompts each Sunday • Gatherings on Thursdays at 7 pm ET via Zoom

About the Journey

Elul is the month of return. It is a season of honest reflection, of releasing what no longer serves, and of preparing for the renewal of the High Holiday season. In this five-week container, we use creativity as a gateway toward this reflection and return.

Weekly Rhythm

Each Sunday through Elul, you'll receive a brief teaching and creative prompt, an invitation to reflect and create something in whatever form calls to you. Drawing, writing, movement, song, photography, cooking, arrangement of objects, any act of making can become a vessel for the inner work of teshuvah. No artistic experience is required. Only a willingness to show up fully.

Each Thursday evening, we'll gather live on Zoom to deepen the week's theme through additional teaching, guided creative practice, and community reflection. Together, we'll witness and support one another as we move through Elul and prepare for the High Holiday season.

Our final gathering on September 10 concludes with an online sensory mikveh, a ritual immersion to prepare our bodies, hearts, and spirits to enter 5787.

Our Journey

Week 1 (August 9 & 13) — With the self: Meeting ourselves honestly

Week 2 (August 16 & 20) — With our loved ones: Repair and tenderness in our closest bonds

Week 3 (August 23 & 27) —With our ancestors and community: The inherited and the collective

Week 4 (August 30 & September 3) —With the wider web of life: Belonging to the living world

Week 5 (September 6 & 10) — Conclusion and community sensory mikvah

About the Gathering

On Wednesday, August 19 at 7 pm ET via Zoom, join Rabbi Jill Hammer and Kohenet Liviah Wessely for an experiential gathering exploring Jewish practices for creating spiritual containment through ritual and energetic boundaries in both ceremonial settings and everyday life. Together, we'll learn about sacred circles, guardian practices and tools, and stories of spiritually drawing the line. We'll also be guided through experiential exercises to begin integrating these practices into our own lives. No prior experience is necessary.

Though live attendance via Zoom is encouraged, this event will be recorded, so you can rewatch it at a later time if you cannot attend live.

ROSH HASHANAH HONEY INFUSIONS with Naomi Spector

Sunday, August 30, 7 pm ET via Zoom

About the Workshop

On Rosh Hashanah, Jews dip fruit in honey or sugar to manifest sweetness in the year to come. Honey and beeswax have long played a role in Jewish ritual, folk medicine, and everyday life, and Jews have a rich history of beekeeping. Join writer, educator, and herbalist Naomi Spector on Sunday, August 30 at 7 pm ET via Zoom to learn about the Jewish history of infusing herbs in honey and explore the practice of creating a Rosh Hashanah honey infusion with herbs associated in Jewish culture with blessings, fertility, and the new year.

Though live attendance via Zoom is encouraged, this event will be recorded, so you can rewatch it at a later time if you cannot attend live.
